Multiple habitats housing a global array of animals

Over the past two and a half decades, Solomon has had the privilege of partnering with the Nashville Zoo on many projects to make Rick Schwartz’s vision for the zoo come to life. The Nashville Zoo at Grassmere is a 200-acre zoo and historic plantation farmhouse located 6 miles southeast of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, and is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Nashville Zoo Veterinary Hospital

This state of the art animal veterinary hospital includes areas for observation featuring tiered seating which allows for up to 200 people to witness live surgeries and procedures , diagnosis, radiology, surgery, a laboratory and pharmacy.
While designing the new facility, Zoo staff traveled to 13 different zoos to find the best technology and design ideas to bring this animal health center to Nashville. In addition to remote controlled lighting, cameras and other modern features, the facility is LEED Silver certified for sustainable building design and operations.
The hospital features a push alley with allows animals to walk themselves into the treatment rooms, an induction stall which allows anesthesia to be administered remotely, and an electric lift which allows larger animals to be raised and lowered more easily for treatment.
Other building features include an animal ICU, Nursery and incubation areas, Staff sleeping and locker rooms, offices, and a conference room.
